Do you need a roadie? G
I'm not big. I'm not Italian. I'm not an aspiring actor. I don't have a tow-truck. People don't call me Tony. I'm not from the east-coast, but I'd consider myself as possessing the ability to engage in "endearing asshole tirades."
Regardless, I'm prepared to accept your offer to be your next roadie. At a minimum, I'd like to referee your next game of cooter ball.
It's not a world I would want to inhabit for a lifetime if I was a woman doing your job;sweaty punters and over zealous, money-grabbing security/drivers/flunkies. What a horrible mix.
Proof, were it ever needed, that stereotypes are stereotypes because they generally have a ring of truth to them.
So who would play "Tony" in a Kayden biopic (Marty in the canvas chair, naturally)? Would you want an edgy, paranoid de Niro à la The Fan, not without charm but with a sinister undercurrent, or the full on, in your face, Goodfellas style Pesci?
I'm plumping for de Niro. The who blinks first standoff with the car in the alley is just too close for comfort.
Every witch doctor has her Atilla...
Kayden is not so much a character out of the new Harry Potter movie as she is one out of the movie Enchanted as the beautiful and kind princess Giselle who would seek to find love in her life and has some bumps along the way. G
It appears the evil lord Valdemor has made his appearance again and is fomenting disruption on this site. It is also good to know that the evil lord was vanquished in JK Rowlings last book and never heard from again. G
For The New Interlectual by Ayan Rand.
Her analogies and metaphors make this book easy to understand. The Witch-Doctor-and-Atilla world view gets quite a bit of mileage in explaining world events both past and present. Basically Atilla represents the strong man who usurps power by force and the Witch Doctor represents he who gains power by making people believe that their souls are weak. Atilla and the Witch Doctor need each other and work together to suppress the rest of the mass...
So, what are you suggesting Grant?
Ayan Rand is a limited thinker.
I guess Grant wants us to believe
fans of Kayden are weaklings and
slaves.
Far from the truth Grant. We are empowered and love our Queen. G
Substitute Firewall's "easy to understand" for the word "simplistic" and you have Rand in a nutshell. An extremely intelligent woman, definitely an excellent writer, and even an original thinker--but simplistic nonetheless. (Not surprised Grant is a fan.)
She never got over the miseries of her Soviet childhood, and became the intellectual equivalent of McCarthy (preceding him by several years and minus the stupidity). For Rand, any government program that helped the weak, old or vulnerable was evil.
Her book of philosophy, The Virtue of Selfishness, spawned the Gordon Gekko character in Oliver Stone's Wall Street. Remember the line, "Greed is good!"?
Is anybody out there enjoying the results of the last twenty years of belief in that line and how that attitude worked out for society--Wall Street or Main Street?
Rand still has her supporters. Unrestrained market=good; philanthropy=evil. I'm guessing most of those AIG execs were huge fans, but they weren't too slow to stick out their hands for the TARP money and then award themselves millions in bonuses for crashing the whole system.
Which just pisses me off, so I like to not think about it and enjoy looking at beautiful pictures of Kayden, instead.
Glenn, liking what you say, Rob you got it in one. I hold my hand up and say I'm a socialist, in the sense that I think Governments sometimes need to help the poor and weaker in society. I don't quite know how Grant ties that into weak minded thinkers like us- or why he bothers to "educate us" with his cynicism, especially if he despises the `porn system' he thinks we are slaves to. We're all slaves to something or someone in this world. He wants to be slave to a free market, which recently fell on its arse; the same free market, incidentally, we indulge in by choosing to buy into Club Kayden. Grant, also, wants to be slave to his shooting from the sidelines; he hates us and hates what he reads from Kayden, and yet he still engages with people who are, in his estimation, beneath him or beyond educating. But we can, at least, establish that Grant (appears) to like greed, cynicism and sarcasm. We, in our child-like, helplessly slavish state, like pictures and films of naked ladies. I think I'd rather be a helpless slave...especially if Kayden was doing the dominating, well, Kayden and Sophie Dee.
Hi Firewall: I'm not a bible thumper and not sure I believe in it, but Matthew 18:1-14 is instructive:
From New Revised Standard Version- At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" He called a child, whom he put among them, and said, "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever becomes humble like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me."
Long live the Queen!
Loyal subject and slave, Glenn.
I recently assisted a new friend who was feature dancing here in Tampa by meeting up with her after she had flown in from LA.
The first night she got in late, and we went out to IHOP and got to know more about each other, since we had only briefly met once and have twitted and phoned a few times. She is a friend of a good friend also in the business.
On her 2nd night of dancing, I was her "pseudo" roadie by my chose to get an ideal of the life of the dancers on the road and of course to be able to spend time with her.
I think I did a pretty good job of helping her, and of course I was not expecting anything (money) just a fun night watching her do her thing and keeping her company until I took her to her redeye flight back home.
Who knows, the next time you are in Tampa or Orlando, I can do the same with you. The mutual friend is the same one you and I have.
